A chromalin proof of the Wipeout PC format box laid two up to print with silver and fluorescents in place. A Cromalin proof is a pre-press color proof, originally a DuPont process from the 1970s, used to approve the final CMYK colors and design of a printed piece before a full print run. It was created by layering and laminating films with toner, a process now replaced by digital proofing. Chromalins were relatively expensive to create and typically only one or two were produced as functional tests and then passed around from client to designer simply as part of the sign off process… usually these proofs would have been discarded once their purpose in checking the repro was done and finished final printed copies delivered. It’s entirely possible that even if more than one was made, that this one is the only surviving proof of this work… the box itself when made up would be the standard PC games packaging around at the time.
