X Clothes X Power - T-Shirt
Around 1981 Ian worked in Leeds brand X Clothes Sheffield store on Leoplold St when it stocked mainly post punk / new punk and proto New Romantic gear (such as Sue Clowes etc) and Dickies workwear (early-FACE Magazine / JoBoxers etc).
Fast forward to 1987 when TDR’s midweek socialism was centred under Leeds at The Phono with Age Of Chance and what would become Nightmares On Wax, X Clothes Jeremy and Sue approached us to rebrand the very same X Clothes shops in what was overtly becoming a TDR look.
Still BC (Before Computers), the designs were gridlocked on non-repro graph board mixing up hand drawn type, then vogue-sh Constructivism, anything and everything Hanna Barbara, Rotring straight lines, photocopies and PMTs.
Out of the rebrand came the first TDR Tee collection for X (later Ace). In fact, these X Clothes shirts were pretty much the first non-band merch Tees we did.
The collection which was all done and dusted, conceived and down-in-one caffeine designed on a ‘Phew what a scorcher’ afternoon in an hour in 1987 hanging round St Christophers Place off London’s Oxford St waiting for a client meeting.
